Hi BLMTO,
I was at the parade on Sunday just a little downstream from the sit-in and you’ve given me lots to think about. When I read today that you’ve been receiving a deluge of hate mail, I knew I had to send a note of support.
As a white gay guy aware of both the privilege bestowed on me and my indebtedness to the radicals and activists before me, I’m eager to hear more from you and truly hope you find a satisfying resolution and prosperous path ahead.
I had the honour of attending the Black Boys fundraiser at Buddies earlier in the month and it was such a magical night – so much talent, so much skill, so much beauty. I can’t wait to see more!
Pride should be all about inclusion and I hope together we can find as many ways as possible to make sure everyone feels welcomed and celebrated. I also had the honour of attending the Rainbow Pow-Wow and Mariposa on Friday which felt like two really fabulous and historic leaps forward for Pride. At the Pow-Wow, I genuinely felt like I was seeing my first glimpse of Reconciliation. It was glorious and electric.
Your action on Sunday reminded me that Canada may indeed have many more Reconciliations ahead of it.
So long as you are willing to talk, I am grateful for the opportunity to listen.
With love
